Ele’s Groups at school
Ele’s Place works with school counselors to run 8-week peer support groups in many area schools. The groups meet during the school day.
Schools: call your branch.
Ask for the Ele’s Group coordinator. Offices open Monday–Thursday 9am–5pm, Friday 9am–1pm (Eastern). Voicemails are returned the same or next business day.
Why groups at school
- Not every family can commit to programming at an Ele’s Place center every week.
- Sometimes a whole school is affected by a death, such as a student or a teacher.
- Ele’s Group meets during school hours and is confidential. The names of members and what is said in the group are not shared with outsiders.
Services are free to children and families.
How to get started
- Parents. Reach out to your child’s school administration or ask your school counselor or social worker how to join. Ask about a group at your child’s school.
- School staff. Call the branch that serves your area and ask for the Ele’s Group coordinator: Ann Arbor and southeast Michigan, Capital Region, or West Michigan.
- Teachers and counselors who want to learn. Ele’s Place provides presentations at school meetings, in-services and workshops, and can be customized to your staff’s needs. At least an hour is recommended, and presentations depend on staff availability. Ele’s Place also offers consultation about the needs of a grieving student, group, class or school.
Ele’s Place is not a crisis line. If someone is in danger, call 911. If you are thinking about suicide, call or text 988.
