History

Ele’s Place was founded in Lansing in 1991 by a group of mental health professionals, community volunteers, Junior League members, and grieving parents Betsy and Woody Stover. It is named in honor of Ele Stover, who died in 1989 at 11 months old. The Capital Region page on elesplace.org says Ele’s Place has served over 31,000 individuals over the last 30 years.

Schools and referrals

Schools: parents start with the school office. Counselors and administrators call the branch and ask for the Ele’s Group coordinator.

Referring a family: clinicians and funeral homes can call before a parent does. Enrollment forms go only to a parent or legal guardian.

Ele’s Place is not a crisis line. If someone is in danger, call 911. If you are thinking about suicide, call or text 988.
